Diary of a teacher

Oh Puhleeze!

So I am teacher, does that make you better than me? You earn more than I do, so what? Hey ma’am please put your ego where it belongs, don’t display your ignorance about life.  What does this mean? You ask for a teacher, I send you one. We evaluated your child and have arrived at a good recommendation for his need. You asked for a personal teacher, a private tutor meaning you do not want a generalised tutoring, like we would have in the classroom.

How long did you haggle the price of the jewel you have on with the seller? Did you yell at the young girl, who made your hair at the salon? Oh, bet you did not notice that a few strands are out of order. I know the price of the lace you are wearing, I know it’s worth more than what you’d pay for three months of my service. Wait a second, are you afraid that paying me will reduce your monthly budget for party uniforms?  How dare you look at me with such disdain when I quote my price, are you looking for a volunteer teacher? I got a family too you know? I live in the same economy as you do. I transport, feed, clothe and house my family.... or did you expect that I do not have a life?!

Tell me about it, you already pay huge amount for school fees, no problem... why do you need extra coaching for your children then? Aha! I can read your mind now... you want better for your child, at whose expense? I should pay for teaching your child? Wait a minute, let’s back up a bit... you pay huge school fees you said? To whom? The school building or the school owner? Listen ma’am, let’s do the math; about 20 percent (if not more) of your income goes to paying tuition every 3 months (or about that) yet you treat teachers with disrespect, please answer me, who works in the school? I would not treat someone who takes a chunk of my money quarterly with such attitude, how do you even do that?

Your child is rude? Does an apple fall far from its tree? You have misjudged me. You’ve sized me up because I wore a shirt and a tie to this meeting... I don’t look presentable enough for you? Must I have same taste as you? Must I look like you? Just because you maybe paying me, imagine the way you have just treated me. Look, let me tell you... your child is fully aware of the way you behave, it’s a matter of time before you begin to ask for help, guess what, he’ll start with you. Do not even insinuate that you don’t know where he got it from, because you modelled it well. What?! Did you say value... you want your children to have a good sense of value... well, that makes two of us! But you know what?  You gotta have it to give it. God gave them life through you, meaning they’d learn value through you. Show it, live it. Why do parents outsource their responsibilities to teachers? I will never understand that. Show respect ma’am, that’s the beginning of value.

Pheeeew.... I’m sorry guys. I totally lost it. Hope you understand....
