Diary of a teacher

Sorry Sir.

I always look forward to teaching the simultaneous equations. I love it when the children tell me the things they substitute and eliminate when cooking at home. One of the cooking ingredients we are yet to find both substitution and elimination for is water. Teaching is learning.

It’s time for class work… that time when students show how much of the day’s topic they have learned. It’s the first time we are treating the topic, so we do group work. And today I have grouped David with thenew boy. I feel David should do a good job of leading the group though I never set a group leader.

“Turn in your notes, and come for it during break’’. As I walk out from the class the next subject teacher is already close.  We exchange greetings.

“Teacher Tunde!”

What?! What could any of my old schoolmates be doing here? Aint I the only teacher of my graduating set? As I turn to heed the call…

“Sorry sir, but I’ve been calling after you from the class”

“Okay… but Teacher Tunde, that’s a first?’’

“I’m sorry Sir, but you were not answering me so I had to call your name”

“David, its fine. Why have you run after me?’’

“The new boy needs your help sir, you know the way you helped me. Sir he has the same problems I used to have”

“Thank you. Come with him during break”

I am Teacher Tunde. I need to come to terms with it; even my students have caught the bug.

It’s who I am. It’s my identity….. It’s my brand!
